“Few family days children of all ages welcome”

Posted on: December 4th, 2016 by Neil

Stayed at the Vagabond whilst seeing family for a few days, making the most of the time we had left during work holidays, I will admit that I never stayed in a bunkhouse before so had no real idea what to expect. I’m normally a static caravan type, A clean bed was my only expectation. Arrived to a friendly check in and a quick tour of where everything was.

The Vagabond is set in a beautiful area a petrol station is nearby, great to grab a quick drink if the bar is closed.

Traveled as a family myself, hubby and 6 children, We found a clean and tidy room, bunk bed style all made up ready for us, hot showers, a space to sit if we was not ready to sleep, allocated one complete room which was appreciated at the top of the bunkhouse, kids loved it and my daughter commented on how nice it was we could all sleep together as one family. One of my sons has Autism and he slept like a log, also rare to find places that will happily allow toddlers (too many places only cater for over 5s) there is enough space in the room for a travel cot, lights provided by each bed no plug sockets in the room but one just outside if needed for charging a phone.

Facilities are provided to cook if you need to, kitchen was large clean and looked like everything that would be needed is there.
Showers were hot once they had started to run and yes they are mixed but it’s simple! Ladies close the door and no one will disturb you (simple mutual respect) same with shared toilet facilities we always found them clean it really does depend on who else is there at the time as with how clean the communal areas are (we always found all areas clean and tidy)

Small bar that is open until early evening and no problem with bringing a few cans back once this has closed, tea and coffee in the kitchen. Breakfast is available if wanted we already had plans due to seeing family.

No limit to the time you can arrive back at night just a polite notice to be that bit quieter after 11.30 and wifi available with log in code on the wall.

We had an enjoyable stay, it is what it claims to be a bunkhouse, somewhere to sleep shower and eat and for the price it offers fantastic value for money, lots to do in the local area that you don’t need a tv in the bedroom or at all really. We will be booking again only next time hopefully for longer. For a first experience of a bunkhouse it was a good one. With today’s modern technology family time here really does mean family time without resorting to sleeping under canvas when the kids phones run out they run out.

If you see Bruce the chocolate lab give him a stroke a lovely friendly dog who belongs to the owner my children loved him.

Worst part of the break is simply driving back to our technology filled house in Portsmouth.
